Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

PG - 13

Review:

This is one of the better sci fi anime that I have seen. It's mood is along the same line as such series' such as X and Cowboy Bebop. It has a lot of darker tones and feels to it, but it creates the feeling of suspense and anticipation. There are some chilling moments, but it only makes the series better. While engrossing you in the detailed and intricate plots, they introduce a wide variety of characters sometimes making the most likeable and nicest characters reveal a dark or violent side. While I love this series, for those of you that aren't a fan of the Sci Fi "case of the episode" kind of anime, this might not be your #1 choice.

Parents Guide:

(Warning, I use a 1 - 5 scale. A 3 on a PG show is NOT the same as a 3 on the PG 13 scale. It takes more then 1 rating above 5 to be considered the next rating up.)

Violence: 3/5 - There is always violence. Always. Gun violence esspecially.

Language: 4/5 - Even for PG 13 this goes kind of far. They tend to say such words as pr***, a**, a**h***, sh** and then the less mild d*** and h***.

Sexual Situations: 1/5 - No real noticable situations...maybe an occasional joke.

Creepiness: 4/5 - There are some topics on this show that aren't suitable for children under 13. One episode deals with a man who was ripping girls skins off their bodies...and we hear it multiple times (we don't see it) There are also many hard issues faced... if you are concerned about your children watching things that could be considered unsettling at times, this may not be the show for them. All of this should be taken with a grain of salt though, nothing is ever really shown, and there is generally a happy ending to go along with each episode. 13 + should definatly be alright.
